How to Prepare for Your Move With Portable Storage Pods

by Sep 24, 2019

Congrats, you’re in the Greenville area and you’ve decided to make a move! A home transition is a big deal and no doubt there’s lots to be done. The journey is just beginning, so why not take advantage of every resource you have? If you’ve decided to utilize portable storage pods for moving, great! They’ll make the trip that much easier as you settle into your new home.

If you’re moving, you probably know the essentials. But when using pods for moving, you might have some questions. Not to worry, we’ve got a few tips to get you prepared! We also assume you know the size and specifications of your pod, but if you don’t, make sure you figure that out first before proceeding.

1 – Gather What You’ll Store

Remember, a mobile pod is a storage unit that comes to you. Therefore, you want to know ahead of time what you plan to store in it. This is especially the case if it’s a mix of delicate items like personal belongings, dishware, or sensitive electronics. You don’t want to mix any of that with heavier objects like furniture. So, organize what goes where; the loading/unloading process will thank you.

2 – Pack Appropriately

Mobile pods will protect your storage during transport with resilient steel, but you still want to shelter them in appropriate packaging. Fragile items, for instance, should be cushioned by as many things as possible (consider sheets, towels, and blankets if you’re feeling creative). Keep light things on top and heavier, durable items on bottom. Account for movement during the trip. Pod crews will take every precaution to keep your itinerary protected but can’t stop small shifts during transportation.

3 – Select an Appropriate Day

For the smoothest transition, we recommend moving with your pods on a schedule-free day, or one primarily focused on the move. Mobile pods can go back and forth while you’re busy with other things, however, in case of complications, it’s good to be around in case problems occur.

Just as well, moving is a juggling act on its own, you don’t want to have to deal with other stressful things for an already stressful move.

4 – Get Boxes Together

Don’t undershoot how many boxes and packing supplies you’ll need. Last thing you want in a moving scenario is to run out of resources, especially when they’re going to a storage pod. Bring along labels and packing tape too to help with organization and keep necessary items either at the front of the pod or with you. Last thing you want is essentials buried behind a wall of heaving items!

The key is organization. A mobile pod is an ideal solution if you need more storage and convenience. But, even something as helpful as a pod can only go so far if you aren’t prepared. Keep your items conveniently stored and separate them by weight and size, while ensuring fragile objects don’t bump into the other during travel.
