Fall Activities Roundup: Part One

by Oct 7, 2020

It’s that time of year again where the weather gets cooler, darker, and spookier. Autumn is a celebrated time of year for many, appreciating the beautiful change of leaf coloration, contemplating over the year, enjoying cider, and putting pumpkin spice in just about everything.

While 2020 has been a chaotic year, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the Fall with themed activities. Mobile Attic is bringing you a several part article series to give you some ideas. Additionally, we’re keeping your safety in mind in regards to COVID-19. With that said, let’s get started!

Plan an Autumn Fire

Alright, this one sounds more dangerous than it is. Provided you do this safely, it’s both fun and therapeutic.

If you happen to live in an area surrounded by leaves, you can plan a leaf fire. This requires a few things, such as a fire safe container or pit. Water and sand should also be nearby. Once you have that, though, pile leaves in a container and set a small blaze. It’s beautiful and a way to say farewell to the summer. Leaves catch quick too, so the fire doesn’t linger long.

If nothing else, a small backyard fire is a fun way to spend a colder evening.

Collect and press leaves

Here’s a classic one: if you love the color of leaves from their pretty golds and elegant reds, you can press them. Pressing leaves is essentially sealing them in a wax paper. Some use a hot element to “meld” them into the wax, but it’s not completely necessary.

This is a great way to get outdoors and also keep a piece of natural beauty. You can also log leaves for each year! Looking back on the “2020 leaves” would make for some interesting reminiscing, now wouldn’t it?

Try outdoor cooking

We’re mentioning fire a lot, but for good reason. Fire is a key part of autumn and our survival as a species. If you want some classic stylings, cook outdoors. But not with a grill, or not in the usual sense. Try making your own campfire and make iron skillet food. Any recipe will do provided you like what you make!

From sausage to tomatoes there’s all sorts of campfire recipes you can try. Give it a shot!

Outdoor film watching

If you want to channel some real atmosphere, consider watching a movie outside. Well, easier said than done, since it would require a projector screen and a way to project your favorite film. But, once done you can simulate a drive-in theater, perfect for spooky films!

We hope you like our ideas so far, but we’re just getting started. As always, Mobile Attic advises caution and always practice safe health habits – including wearing masks where necessary.
