Containers & Storage FAQs

What type of lock should I use?

We recommend using a 2 ¾” (70mm) Disc Lock. You can purchase locks from Mobile Attic or at your local home improvement store.

How do I control humidity inside my container?

Humidity does not have to be a challenge. Mobile Attic units are thoughtfully designed with reflective tops to deflect heat and equipped with air vents to ensure effective air circulation. While they are built to provide excellent care for your belongings, for additional protection, you should consider utilizing moisture absorber products like Damp Rid to control humidity within your Container. These products are readily available at your local home improvement store or you can purchase them directly from Mobile Attic.

Can I put a car in a Mobile Attic Container?

No, you may not store a car in a Mobile Attic Container.

Hazardous Materials, including toxic chemicals, gas, liquids, and substances, as well as lawnmowers, motorized vehicles, and illegal items, are strictly prohibited from being placed in a Mobile Attic Container.

Additionally, we advise against storing heirlooms, irreplaceable artifacts, deeds, legal notices, forms of currency, and items that are not your personal property. For further details on prohibited items, please refer to your rental agreement. It’s important to note that HUMAN OR ANIMAL HABITATION IS ALSO SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED.

Can I access my Mobile Attic Container?

Absolutely! You can access your Mobile Attic Container as often as needed with no additional charges. Before accessing your Container, you’ll need to schedule the visit with our Service Center with ample notice (usually 24-48 hours). You can schedule a time to access your container through Chat or by calling our Service team.

What if I can't open my container door?

If you’re having trouble opening your container door, items may have shifted during transit. You can reach out to our Customer Care Team who can assist you and give you suggestions on techniques to get the door open.

Is there a weight limit?

Our containers have specific weight limits: a 12’ Container can hold up to 4,700 lbs, a 16’ Container up to 4,200 lbs, and a 20’ Container up to 3,700 lbs. Our STEEL Containers can hold up to 28 Tons of cargo, but cannot be moved when loaded.

You do not need to calculate your content’s weight; instead, you should use these limits as guidelines when packing. If you have concerns about approaching the maximum weight, consider identifying the heaviest items and looking at the weights of comparable items online. Most retail websites provide item weights. Remember, the combined weight of your heaviest items should not surpass 75% of the total allowed weight. Be mindful of heavy items such as appliances, sofas, large entertainment centers, bookcases, bedroom chests, safes, exercise equipment, pianos, and pool tables.

Does Mobile Attic offer contents protection coverage options or coverage for damage to the container? How much are those options and what is covered?

For help with contents protection or damage to a container, please call our Customer Care Team for information. Alternatively, you can find that information on our reservation form.
