5 Different Moving Methodologies

Before You Move

When you feel that it’s time to move, there are a bunch of things to consider ranging from cost to location, to needed time, and so much more. At The Mobile Attic, we want your moving process to go as smoothly as possible. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 5 different moving methodologies that might be valuable for you. They follow 5 of the most important aspects of the moving process that every prospective mover should take into heavy consideration.

  1. Downsizing Or Upsizing?

Prior to moving into your new home, one of the first things that you must decide is whether or you are planning on downsizing(going from a larger or more expensive home to a smaller or less expensive one), upsizing(going from a smaller or less expensive home to a larger or more expensive one) or if you are looking for a home that is comparable to your current one. If you are buying your first home, making this decision is of lesser importance, but still of value as you consider your plans for the future.

Weigh the pros and cons of each plan, making sure that you are content with whatever conclusion you decide to go with.

  1. Location, Location, Location

Whether you’re planning on buying a home in the city, countryside, or suburbs, location is a factor that can make or break a moving decision. If your dream house is located in a very unfavorable location, then it’s quite common to wonder if it’s worth buying at all.

Many times, your location will determine the amount of jobs available to you, your income, and the quality and quantity of nearby services. So it’s best to be absolutely certain that the location you are moving to is the best fit for you and your family. It might also be wise to consider the quality of schools(if you have children or plan on having them in the near future), how close you are to family and/or close friends, and your proximity to major roads or interstates.

  1. Price (All About The Money)

It should go without saying, but having a set price range in which you are buying from is absolutely essential. If you stick with it, having a concrete price range will prevent you from over or under spending on a potential house you are looking to buy. It’s important to keep in mind that the price of a home is dependent upon a lot of different factors, largely based around the previously mentioned location.

For instance, a house bordering an accessible lake is likely more valuable than a house in the middle of the desert. Likewise, a small house in the middle of a major city is oftentimes quite a bit more expensive than a modest home in the suburbs because of its close proximity to city resources and attractions.

Whatever you decide on, make sure that the price range you end up deciding on is right for you and that you are not pressured into over or underspending by outside influencers.

  1. Build Or Buy

It’s oftentimes the first question on prospective movers minds: Should I move into a preexisting home that is already on the market or should I try hiring someone(or a company) to build a new house for me? If you’re really daring, you might even consider building a house on your own.

Whether you’re looking for a custom house(one of a kind) or a tract house(one of many made with similar designs), can also be a notable thing to consider. Custom houses have the advantage of being built to your specifications, but are often more expensive and take a much longer amount of time to build than their tract counterparts. Tract houses are often more affordable and take less time to build, but many are of lower quality and are less likely to be deemed “perfect” by interested buyers.

  1. When To Move

Figuring out when the best time to move is a bit more subjective than most of the other moving methodologies as a lot of it is dependent upon factors like the availability of homes and/or land, their ever changing prices, and general personal preference. Each of these factors play an important role in the moving process, and may be tremendously altered depending on who the buyer is and what their primary reason for moving is.

So, when should you move? It may sound kind of cheesy, but you should move when it feels right for you. When a house that you are looking at buying suddenly drops in price because the current owners want to sell it off as fast as possible, perhaps it is a good indication that you should go ahead and buy it. If you have children and want to move before the start of the next school year, then it’s generally optimal for you to move in the summer. If you are looking to save a lot of money when you move, then the fall or winter months(the latter of which when demand is the lowest) are probably your best bet. And if you’re not a fan of colder weather but still want to take advantage of low demand, then spring might just be the season for you.

Whatever you decide on doing, make sure that you weigh the pros and cons of moving into a particular home at a particular time of year and ultimately decide on a date that works best for you.

Final Moving Memento

Every one of us is different and consequently, we all have different reasons for why we might want to move. Some people want to move quickly and have less of a preference in the various features of a particular house and more of a focus on the fact that it is a functioning home, while others might want to take their time when moving and carefully calculate which house they want out of a plethora of different options.

Regardless of whichever method you prefer, we at The Mobile Attic hope that when you buy your next(or possibly first) home, you will have a good understanding of these 5 basic tenets of moving. And if you need any help figuring out how you should plan on moving, we’ve got you covered with our large number of portable self storage containers that are specially designed to make the moving process go much smoother than it often is!
