We’re back with our fall activities article series! Last time we discussed things involving a lot of fire. This time, not so much.
As always, our activities will be based on a few considerations: safety, budget, and location. Mobile Attic understands this isn’t a typical year so doing the usual isn’t a guarantee. Also, we know that not everyone has a budget for expensive ventures, so our recommendations will either be free or budget minded.
With that, let’s get on with the next suggestions!
Carving pumpkins but with your own designs
Really now, no autumn is complete without a good old pumpkin carving session. Did you know that during Samhain, the holiday Halloween is based on, people placed out carved gourds to hopefully scare away evil spirits? Well, now you can scare your own ghosts with unique designs.
If you want to do something different than the standard “scary” face, you can get creative this year! Try it out.
Take some nature walks
Oh yes, there’s no better way to enjoy the shifting of autumn than with nature walks. They’ll challenge you, get some fresh air and exercise in your routine, and show you the beautiful autumn sights! Plus, most of the time you don’t need money for park walks.
Park walks are also less exposed, so there’s less health risk too. However, be sure to check with local alerts to see if parks (or nature trails) have different hours of operation.
Pick some apples then make a pie
This one’s a little out there, but try picking your own apples (or anything if you can find it) and translate that to a home cooked apple pie. Now, here’s the kicker, you have to make everything yourself – within reason.
Part of autumn is reflecting on the year and thinking about how we survived the colder seasons back before electric heating. So, there’s something primordial about making a pie from near scratch.
But, if that’s all too much, consider cooking a pie anyway, it fits the year.
Make your own fall decorations
You can rush out and get some autumn-themed décor like everyone, which is fun in its own way. But hey considering making your own this year. Anything from pine cones to pumpkins (picked free of unwelcome critters of course) can be used. It’s a good solo or family activity too, requiring only imagination and time.
Given that a lot of us are still indoors, it’s a great time killer.
Read some classic horror stories
Did you know that Dracula had hairy palms, bushy eyebrows, and a moustache? Yeah, that was Bram Stoker’s original Dracula. While a magnetic character, it’s not what you expect!
The point being, get in the spooky mood this year by checking out classic horror stories such as the mentioned. You won’t regret it!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our suggestions so far!
